You could be using your independence to travel around the country to visit family or friends, or just to have a good get away and enjoy the weekend elsewhere for what it has to offer. We have come up with a few different ideas to get you started if you’re making some last minute plans.
New York is, as always, is a good place to start. Let’s begin with the fireworks, as ever the mainstay in July 4th traditions. Macy’s is firing 40,000 fireworks for the 25 minute display of patriotism in what promises to be an extraordinary display, get yourself near to Brooklyn Bridge for the perfect view. Alternatively for a more formal way of enjoying Macy’s fireworks, board a New York riverboat for some 1920’s jazz and champagne with Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra Present The Riverboat Ball. For daytime activities there is the renowned century old hotdog eating contest, or for a different type of day check out the Manhattan beach party at La Marina to celebrate day and night.
If you want to be more active this independence day how about the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta, starting at Lenox Square the 6.2 mile run heads down Peachtree finishing on 10th Street in Midtown. A festive atmosphere, scenic routes and the beloved finishers t-shirt makes it a fun family race. The finish line is opposite Piedmont Park, making it the perfect location to meet friends and family after the race for a picnic in the park.
In Colorado the sporting events continue throughout the weekend with the Colorado Rockies taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers from July 3-6 with tickets starting from $4. The Colorado Rapids are also in action July 4th playing the Columbus Crew, both matches should be an exciting watch and make sure you stick around for the firework displays afterwards!
For people after a more raucous atmosphere of course Sin City is the place to fulfil your needs. From nightclubs, to pool parties, shows and of course casinos, Vegas has the party scene under control. MGM Grand is hosting some of the world’s biggest DJ’s over the weekend in Afrojack, Calvin Harris and Tiesto who are set to set the party atmosphere alight in their usual fashion. Historically Las Vegas does not disappoint, July 4th weekend and 2014 is no different.
So if you want to get out and about this July 4th but are still stuck for ideas, why not check out some of these events if you’re in the area.
Have a good trip!
